MPs from the largely Kurdish-backed Democratic Society (DTP) Party yesterday used for the first time the words "our sons" and "martyr" in relation to the Turkish soldiers killed in a PKK terror ambush on Sunday outside of Sirnak. Speaking yesterday, DTP MP leader Selahattin Demirtas noted his grief at the news of the deaths, saying "We have lost 14 more of our sons in the attacks in Sirnak and Diyarbakir. We wish condolences to all the families, and compassion from Allah to the fallen martyrs."

Demirtas and other DTP MPs also called on the Turkish Parliament to hold a special session on the subject of terror yesterday. In the meantime, DTP Siirt MP Osman Ozcelik made these statements in reference to the recent terror attack and to the continuing debates over a possible over the border military operation by Turkish troops in pursuit of PKK terrorists in northern Iraq:

"An over the border operation would be an adventure which would involve the deaths of many, and much blood being spilled. Violence only leads to more violence. And this should absolutely be known: that we as the DTP are opposed to PKK violence. We also do not find the state's policies, some of which give way to more violence, right. Some say that we are against an over the border operation because we want to protect the PKK. No! We are against such an operation because we want to protect Turkey. We face questions such as: Do you condemn the PKK? If stating that we condemn it will solve the problem, I certainly do state that I condemn the attacks in Sirnak."
