A group of leftist demonstrators clashed with police on Sunday in Istanbul during an unauthorized protest held for the upcoming World Women's Day. Police were heavy handed, showing a use of force with truncheons to beat demonstrators, according to footage from APTN, and tear gas to disperse the group.

There were reports of police spraying tear gas directly into the face of some demonstrators. One hundred of the 300 protesters left peacefully upon requests from the police.

Thousands of women took place in an authorized demonstration on Saturday in Istanbul, with the intention of high-lighting women's rights before World Women's Day, March 8.
