Officials in Poland and Greece have announced a ban on the import of Turkish and Romanian poultry, following the discovery of bird flu in both of these countries. President of the Polish Veterinary Council, Krzystof Jazdzewski, has said that a crisis center has been set up in Warsaw to analyze the situation, which he termed "an extremely dangerous" threat for Poland, over coming days.

Jazdzewski also said that he was most concerned about the H5N1 viral strain found in Romanian birds, as it is known to transfer easily to humans. Meanwhile, authorities from the Greek Agricultural Ministry have also announced that there is a current moritorium on imports of Turkish and Romanian poultry.
