Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan yesterday issued a stern reminder to the US on the subject of PKK terror, saying "No one has the right to ask us to be patient while we spend every day burying our fallen soldiers." Speaking to a group from his Justice and Development (AKP) Party in the parliament yesterday, Erdogan also said this:

"We have always stressed in our meetings that the terror forces in Northern Iraq must be dealt with in an effective manner. Until now, Turkey has taken a patient stance on this issue. But with funerals of soldiers whose coffins are wrapped in flags every day in different cities, with mothers crying, with babies left orphaned, no one has the right to ask patience of Turkey at this point. And this truth should be recognized by everyone: our people are asking for effective steps to be taken against terrorists in the region....."

A response to PM Erdogan's words on the PKK came from US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack, who said "Of course we are on the side of the Turkish government in our shared struggle against terror."
