Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently spoke with UN General Secretary Kofi Annan, French President Jacques Chirac and Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi on the issue of sending Turkish soldiers into Lebanon.

In a previous phone call to Erdoğan, Annan highlighted how important the planned force in southern Lebanon would be for achieving peace in the region. In return, Erdoğan stressed the importance of getting rid of any ambiguities about the duties of a peacekeeping mission there. He also stated that any decision regarding this matter would need to go through the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
