    The issue of sending troops to Iraq constitutes the priority of the agenda of Parliament in the new legislative year. The Permit on the issue, which will be tackled by the Cabinet today, is expected to be taken up in the General Assembly of Parliament on Wednesday or Thursday.No other issue will be dealt with, on the day when the permit is tackled in Parliament. If no one opposes, the talks on the permit will take place in an open session. If the permit is not forwarded to Parliament, the agenda of the General Assembly will include recent international agreements.On whether the issue of sending troops to Iraq will be brought to the agenda of Parliament in one week, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said, “We are planning to raise the issue in Parliament in the shortest possible time.” Regarding whether it will be an authorization motion or a permit, Erdogan said, “We will evaluate the technical work on the issue tomorrow (today) in the Cabinet meeting, then we will decide accordingly.”Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said that all the issues pertaining to Iraq, including sending troops, would be tackled in the Cabinet meeting on Monday for the first time. Gul said that the date for Turkish troops to go to Iraq was not determined and that, “There will be no article in the permit regarding the section in which our troops will be stationed or regarding the number of troops to be sent. We will contact the officials from the Foreign Ministry and Joint Staff, in accordance with the results of the Cabinet meeting.” Gul said that they expect a decision from UN in the upcoming days.
