Palestinians wake up to first morning of freedom

Palestinians who live in Jericho are waking up to a new sense of freedom today, following the hand over of Jericho by the Israelis to Palestinians that took place yesterday. The hand over follows talks between both sides that took place at a summit in Egypt last month.

Jericho is the first in a planned hand over of five cities that was negotiated between Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and Ariel Sharone in a show of commitment on both side to kick-start the Middle East Road map, which had been stalled for almost four years.

Israeli soldiers are still operating at some check points on the outskirts of Jericho but will make a full pull out within three weeks.
