Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will pay an official five-day visit next week to Turkey, a close ally, the Turkish government announced Thursday.

Gilani, who will arrive Monday, is scheduled to hold talks with Turkish leaders and attend a state ceremony to mark October 29, Turkey's Republic Day, a statement said.

Following his meetings in Ankara, Gilani will travel on to Istanbul for an international conference organized by the World Economic Forum, it said.

Turkey and Pakistan have traditionally close ties.

In April 2007, Ankara hosted fence-mending talks between then Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf and his Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai, in which the two leaders agreed to step up joint efforts against terrorism and boost confidence-building.
