A negative response came to UN General Secretary Kofi Annan's request to Israeli leadership that Israeli troops be pulled out of Lebanon following the arrival of a UN-backed peace-keeping force. Israeli PM Ehud Olmert also asserted that the land and sea blockade, as it currently stands, will not be lifted from Lebanon.

The Israeli land and sea blockade has lasted now for 7 weeks, though Israeli leadership has said that it would be lifted once all the conditions necessary for a peace-keeping force were in place.

In a meeting between Olmert and Annan on Wednesday, the UN leader reportedly placed pressure on Olmert to lift the blockade from Lebanon, noting it had been in place since July 12.
