    OECD's Third Cheapest Country Is Turkey

    Turkey, which was the fifth cheapest country at the average price level among the 30 members of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in 1999, rose to the 3rd rank last year.According to the data of State Statistics Institute (DIE), while average price level(comparative price level index) in 30 member states of OECD was accepted as 100, this number in Turkey was determined as 50 in 2003.The price level in Turkey remained at  half of average of  30 OECD countries. When Turkey is compared with its 1999 level, although its price level increased, it fell two steps lower on the OECD scale. Turkey, which was the fifth cheapest country although its price index was 47 in 1999, rose to the 3rd rank with an index of 50 in 2003. Japan, of which the price index was the highest among OECD countries in 1999, ranked the 5th in 2003.
