Number of foreigners visiting Turkey increases by 14.6 percent

The number of foreigners visiting Turkey increased by 14.6 percent in February of 2005 when compared with February of 2004, Turkish State Institute of Statistics (SIS) stated on Friday. According to arriving and departing foreigners statistics of SIS, 696,643 foreigners arrived in Turkey in February of 2005, while this number was 607,855 in the same month of the previous year.

The number of Turkish citizens arriving in Turkey decreased by 4.2 percent in February 2005 over to February 2004 and fell from 513,844 to 492,405.
German tourists visited Turkey the most in February 2005. The Germans were followed by Bulgarians, Russians, Iranians, Azerbaijanis,Dutch, French, Georgians, Greece and British people.  Â
On the other hand, the number of departing foreigners rose by 18.1 percent in February of 2005 when compared with February of 2004. 646,165 foreigners departed from Turkey in February 2005, while the number of Turkish people departing from Turkey was 442,356.
