The plan of Turkey to open a second border gate was tackled in the meeting between Ugur Ziyal, the Foreign Ministry Undersecretariat, and Eric Edelman, U.S. Ambassador to Ankara, on Thursday. U.S. reportedly approaches this plan warmly. Ovakoy is very close to Silopi, the town, which is planned to serve as the logistic support center for Turkish troops when they go to Iraq.
Ziyal also met the Ambassadors of Arab countries on Thursday and briefed them about the permit, which was adopted by Parliament to send troops to Iraq. Ziyal told the Arab ambassadors, “The sole purpose of Turkey in sending troops to Iraq is to provide peace and stability in this country in the shortest possible time. We have no covert agenda regarding Iraq.”
