The main opposition Republican People's (CHP) Party is in turmoil following Sunday's general elections, in which the previously ruling Justice and Development (AKP) Party rose to victory once again.

CHP general leader Deniz Baykal is reportedly not emerging from his home, watching results and reactions on television, while top CHP official Onder Sav was left to make a general statement for the party, rather than Baykal, who was expected to make the statement. Meanwhile, a statement from Zeki Sezer, the general leader of the Democratic Left (DSP) Party, reflected what many speculate is regret at having coming together with the main opposition CHP in the run-up to the general elections: "Of course these results are not good. But we have 13 collegues representing us in parliament. We will have to watch closely in the next period, and act accordingly."
