Spokesperson of the leading intellectual Kurdish movement Kürd-Der, İbrahim Güçlü has announced that despite threats from the separatist Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK), he will not leave Diyarbakır and go to Sweden, where he has a citizenship. Güçlü said his aim is to illustrate that he is “more courageous than them.” Having received death threats lately, Güçlü is positive they are coming from the outlawed PKK organisation: “The nature and the content of the threats reveal that they come from PKK and their aides.”

“If the PKK want their name cleared, they should announce right away that they have nothing to do with the threatening calls and letters,” Güçlü was quoted as saying, “if not, then the organisation will have linked itself to the recent suspicious deaths of other leading Kurdish intellectuals.”

“It is time they give up on these futile antics – they should come clean once and for all.”

Güçlü also said PKK claims he tried to assassinate Abdullah Öcalan, which he dismisses by saying, “I have given 40 years to the Kurdish struggle – but I have always protected myself with intellect, not arms.”
