Foreign capital investment in Turkey experienced a 239% increase in 2005, meaning it broke a record for investment level by reaching the level of $9,650,000,000 last year. Active foreign investment in Turkey in 2004 was more than a third less, at $2,847,000,000. Turkey has began to be a center for attracting foreign investment. Two important factors in this development are the appearance of economic stability, as well as the recently started EU accession process.

Cash-based foreign capital coming into Turkey in 2005 was estimated to derive %56.7 from EU countries. This is a drop in EU cash-based investment compared to 2004, when EU countries represented 78.8% of capital investment.
