Following the shocking suicide of a police officer working in the Turkish Parliament earlier this week, yet another credit-debt based suicide has made the news in Turkey. 37 year old traffic policeman Kemal Cengiz Guzel ended his life two days ago in the Beylikduzu neighborhood of Istanbul. Found by his wife in a pool of blood, Guzel had been acting "strangely" in the past few days according to his family. Said his wife, Yekazat Guzel, "Kemal was earning a salary of 1159 YTL. He was using 454YTL per month on car credit, and 200YTL on rent. We were having a hard time financially."

Following his suicide, it emerged that Guzel had bought a car in 2005, and had taken out credit to be paid back over 36 months to do so. He had only been able to make 11 payments on his car thus far.
