Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) Chairman Zafer Caglayan and Italian Ambassador to Turkey Carlo Marsili signed a protocol which will provide convenience to industrialists and personnel of ASO in visa procedures.

Speaking at the ceremony, Caglayan said, ''Turkey, as a country which will start EU entry talks on October 3rd, wants EU countries to lift visa procedures applied on Turkish citizens.''

''Half of Turkey's exports worth 100 billion USD is made to European countries,'' added Caglayan. Caglayan criticized that while businessmen and citizens of European countries are moving freely, Turkey is not given this opportunity.

Meanwhile, Marsili said, ''Italy supports Turkey's EU membership from the beginning and it put pressure on other EU member countries and asked them to take concrete steps.''

''Trade volume between Turkey and Italy exceeded 11.5 billion USD in 2004. It increased by 34 percent when compared with previous year,'' added Marsili.

Through the protocol, the visa procedures of ASO members will be pursued in ASO without applying to Italian Embassy.
