    Indonesian Praise to Turkey

    On his trip to Indonesia, Prime Minister Erdogan received words of praise from Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, while staying at the presidential palace. President Yudhoyono congratulated Turkey on its success towards the path of the European Union. The president said that a Turkey which succeeded in bringing Islam, democracy and modernity together is a "model for us all."

    The two leaders discussed the terrorism faced by both countries. Erdogan told the Indonesian President, “Terror has a cause and effect relationship. The biggest cause is ignorance. Therefore we should work towards removing the cause before we can do away with the effect.”

    Erdogan did not accept a painting that was to be presented to him in Indonesia.

    After Indonesia, Erdogan proceeded to Malaysia meeting PM Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi.

    CYPRUS INITIATIVE

    While traveling in Southern Asia, the government also started an initiative for Cyprus in the region. Erdogan held talks in Indonesia to remove the present isolation imposed on the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Sending missions from TRNC to China and Indonesia, was also mentioned.
