    Hisarcıklıoğlu: "The Constitution should be re-written"

    At a plenary committee meeting attended by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, CHP Leader Deniz Baykal and DYP Leader Mehmet Ağar, Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, chairman of the Turkish Union of Chambers of Commerce and Commodity Exchanges, likened the Turkish constitution to a patchwork quilt. "The time has come for a new constitution," he said.

    The public has had enough of corruption
    Hisarcıklıoğlu also said the public is fed up with corruption, and that reforms are needed in both politics and the economy. The constitution needs to be renewed,  he said, with a modern understanding of the state as its distinguishing feature.

    Minister of State Kürşad Tüzmen, Minister of Industry and Commerce Ali Coşkun and the Minister of Justice, Cemil Çiçek were also present at the meeting.
