The leader of the opposition Motherland Party, Erkan Mumcu, has said that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's "heavy insults" to opposition party members has "tried their patience." In a sharp criticism of PM Erdogan, Mumcu said "The Prime Minister is experiencing a short term problem. I think there must be a link between the light bulb and his head." Referring to former leader Mesut Yilmaz, Mumcu said that as he thought that Erdogan's end would resemble that of Yilmaz, who is currently being tried for a number of accusations in the Turkish Supreme Court.

    Mumcu went on:
"Citizens voted for you on the basis that you did not resemble those who preceded you. Don't approve the Galataport deal, turn back from a mistake. Everyone has the opportunity to feel regret. He is the only prime minister in the history of the Turkish Republic to actually admit telling a lie. First he denied meeting with Sami Ofer, and then in the evening, he admitted it.....If the Prime Minister would go on television this evening and just explain 5 things about the Galataport project to us, I will apologize."
On the subject of early elections:
"The smartest thing the Prime Minister could do for the people of this country would be to go to early elections. And if he can't do this, he should at least change some of the people in his cabinet who don't inspire trust in the people of Turkey. The Prime Minister is constantly insulting the opposition. He cannot even stand the tiny criticisms from the opposition. He responds to miniscule things with violent and insulting words. We cannot ignore these things. We are at the end of our patience. This balloon has been blown up to the point that it will soon explode in the face of the people."
