US presidential candidate Obama appears to forget Turkey's role as democracy

Democratic Party contender for the US presidency, Barack Obama, has called Iran "a threat to the region," and labeled Israel "the only settled democracy in the Middle East," in comments which underscored the fact that Obama seemed to have forgotten about Turkey, a current candidate for full EU membership.
Speaking in front of an audience at the Israeli lobby foundation AIPAC, Obama underlined what he viewed as the importance of Israeli security, calling Israel "our strongest ally, and the only settled democracy in the region."
