Germany's Frank-Walter Steinmeier, seen as most likely to take over the Foreign Minister from the current head, Joschka Fischer, has told Hurriyet that "support will continue" for the German policy towards Turkey that was carried out under FM Fischer's authority. Steinmeier, who is expected to start as German FM in November, spoke about Turkey's role in talks between the political parties CDU/CSU and SPD:
Trip to Turkey in 90s
Steinmeier spoke about a trip he had taken to Turkey with his family in the early 90s, saying "I saw only friendship from the Turks during that trip. I saw how used to Europeans, especially Germans, the people in Turkey were. It made me very happy to see how people had returned from Germany to Turkey with good memories."
