An official with the U.S. State Department said Monday the PKK was a terrorist organization and the United States desired to see it go out of business amid growing criticism against Washington over problems in intelligence sharing.

During a daily press briefing, deputy spokesman Robert Wood replied to a question on the PKK's recent attack on the Aktutun border military outpost in Turkey's southeastern province of Hakkari

"The PKK is a terrorist organization. We want to see it go out of business. That has been very clear. And, you know, we have clearly condemned the attack and expressed our condolences to the people of Turkey," Wood was quoted as saying by the Anatolian Agency.

Wood said it had no new information regarding the proposal of a trilateral meeting between Turkey, Iraq and the U.S. yet, when asked about the possibility of a gathering.

Seventeen Turkish soldiers and 23 terrorists were killed in clashes when the outlawed PKK attacked a gendarmerie station in the southeastern province of Hakkari on Friday.

The attack raised questions over the established intelligence mechanism between the U.S. and Turkey with some suggesting the intelligence flow was cut before the attack.
