U.S. Pressure for Solution

As December 14 elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is approaching, U.S. intensified her pressure for a solution in the island. Ambassador Thomas Weston, the U.S. Cyprus Special Envoy, will pay a new visit to the region. Weston will visit Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus next week. In this series of visits, Weston will give the message that, “A solution should be reached on the basis of the Annan Plan and before May.” Weston will also voice the view of U.S. that the elections in TRNC should be free from fraud. U.S. officials said that after the elections the efforts for solution would further intensify.�
