Turkish PM Tayyip Erdogan had a phone conversation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad about Turkey's Amik Plain's water need which was met by the Asi River, which springs in Lebanon and flows to the Mediterranean after passing through Syria.

Turkey's prime minister conducted a phone conversation with Syria's Assad regarding the Amik Plain's water need which was met from Asi River, which springs in Lebanon and flows to the Mediterranean after passing through Syria, and entering to Turkey, the Anatolian Agency reported on Wednesday, adding the Syrian President was positive towards the issue.

Erdogan and al-Asad discussed the recent developments in Iraq, the Middle East peace process, bilateral relations as well as areas of concern in the common interests of the two countries, it added.

Asi, also known as Orontes, is an important river in the eastern Anatolian region and has a total length of 450 km (280 miles). Much of  the river flows through Syrian territories.Â
