Turkish and Iranian artillery shelled terror organization targets in northern Iraq during the past two days, news agencies reported on Wednesday. (UPDATED)

Turkish artillery shelled the Sidikan district, near where the Iraqi, Iranian and Turkish borders meet, a member of the terror organization PKK told AFP.

"Yesterday and today, the villages of Rizka, Maradu and Kanira, close to the Iranian border, were periodically bombarded by the Iranians," he added.

PUKmedia, a news service associated with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, earlier on Wednesday quoted an Iraqi Kurdish official as saying that the Iranian artillery started shelling Doli Rash area in Sangster sub-district in Pishder district, Sulaimani last night and resumed until this morning.

"The shelling resulted only in material damages to citizens’ properties," the official told the Iraqi Kurd news service.

Iranian forces also shelled the Rizga, Maradu, Shinawa and Tanki Chokhna regions in the Zharawa sub-district, which resulted only in material damage to local farms, PUKmedia added.

Turkey and Iran have been long fighting against the terrorist movements operated by both the PKK and its Iranian wing, PEJAK.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Ankara and much of the international community, including the EU and the United States.
