Turkish cargo ship blazes out of control

According to the Anatolian News Agency, a Turkish dry cargo vessel caught fire 100 km from the Black sea coastal town of Trabzon on Thursday. Fifty-three people on board had abandoned ship. The vessel was heading towards the Russian port of Sochi. The Turkish emergency coordination centre in Ankara sent two coastguard vessels and a helipcopter to the scene on Thursday evening. All crew members and passengers were safely taken to Trabzon, however, the fire was still not under control. One passenger, a truck-driver, suffered chest pains and was taken to hospital, it said, but the others suffered no ill effects. They were taken off the ferry, the UFUK-1, by the Trapesus-2, believed to be a North Korean passenger ship. The cause of the fire is not yet known. Â
