The consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.45 percent, while the producer price index (PPI) fell 0.90 percent in September, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) said on Friday. (UPDATED)

Turkish CPI hit 11.13 percent on a 12-month basis, as the PPI rate over 12 months fell to 12.49 percent, the TURKSTAT said.

 

The highest monthly rise in the consumer price index is due mainly to increased education prices, up 2.04 percent, as well as rose for communication prices with  1.37 percent.  The highest increase was 23.23 percent in the index for housing compared with the same month of the previous year.

 

The Turkish Central Bank expects the 2008 year-end inflation rate to reach 10.6 percent, while the bank also estimates it to be down between 5.9 and 9.3 percent in 2009, and drop to a level of between 4 and 7.8 percent at the end of 2010.
