According to the new structure, the establishment of Europe and Middle East representatives from both the Higher Security Council and the Internal Security General Secretariat would be implemented, NTV reported on Wednesday.

A Border Security Undersecretariat would also be established, while the Security General Directorate (EGM) would be transformed into an undersecretariat, as part of the new structure, the report also added.

The new structure envisages the interior minister also holding the post of deputy prime minister.

The council discussed recent developments both in Turkey and the world on Tuesday, and had released a statement following the regular meeting of the MGK saying that they decided to form a new structure to strengthen coordination in the fight against terrorism.

"We affirmed our belief that the heinous acts and attacks by the terrorist organization and its supporters targeting our unity would not reach their goal. This threat will be eliminated on the basis of democracy and the rule of law," it also said.   Â

Turkey's fight against terrorism would continue with an influential cooperation of all state institutions and support of the Turkish people, the statement added.

Turkey's Higher Board of Counter-Terrorism last week proposed to create a new division under the umbrella of the Interior Ministry to coordinate activities in the fight against the PKK terrorist organization.Â

The council also called on everyone to act responsibly since all unfair accusations against the security forces, which has been fighting successfully against terrorism with huge success, served only the aims of the terrorist organization and its supporters.

Recent developments in Iraq and the southern Caucasus were also discussed in detail, it added.

"Turkey's election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2009-2010 with a great majority of votes will accelerate regional and international efforts to ensure peace, stability, security, cooperation and prosperity in the world," the statement said.
