The European Parliament session on Turkey yesterday was the scene of verbal battles between right and left leaning political representatives from EU countries. Socialist and Green Party leaders Martin Schultz and Daniel Cohn-Bendit used the occasion to accuse right and far right group representatives of "racism" in their approach to Turkey. With Christian Democrat Party representatives of the European Parliament relying on their arguments that "Turkey is neither European nor Christian," Schultz reacted standing up to say "Be very clear if what you want to say is that you don't want Turkey. Do not dance around on egg shells." Cohn-Bendit for his part accused the Christian Democrats of "religious and culural racism." Â
