Syrian troops have completely withdrawn from Beirut following pressure exerted by the Lebanese themselves, after weeks of public demonstrations, and a UN security council resolution that called for a "complete pull out of Syria from Lebanon".

A security source said late yesterday, " There is no more any Syrian military and intelligence presence in Beirut and many Lebanese regions. About 4,000 Syrian forces have returned home and a similar number have been relocated to the eastern Bekaa valley where another 6,000 Syrian troops are stationed."
Syrian intelligence started to pack up and leave their central offices in Beirut on Tuesday.
