The Presiding Officer of the Supreme Election Council has rejected an AKP (Justice and Development Party) application to ‘ban’ a CHP (Republican People’s Party) election poster.

The CHP had publicly criticised Prime Minister Erdoğan’s son buying a ship, through posters they put up in streets and assembly areas. The posters show a caricature of Mr. Erdoğan and his son on a ship, and stress, “His son was studying with a scholarship four years ago, now he has bought a ship worth three million dollars.”  The AKP applied to both the Ankara Prosecutor’s office and the Supreme Election Council for the collecting and banning of the posters. The Supreme Election Council rejected the application, stating that the posters were “within the boundaries of criticism.”
