“It seems that the results of the two permits that the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government brought to the agenda caused Turkey to take some burdens. Those burdens are so heavy that AKP members do not say even a word about the issue. The protagonists in this picture – President Ahmet Necdet Sezer, Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan and Republican People's Party (CHP) – act consistently, this cannot be denied…However it is impossible to turn the blind eye to the contradictions in the attitude of Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul in the cases of March 1 and October 7 permits. It is possible to say that the impasse, that Turkey is facing currently, was caused by this inconsistency. “Because the reasons of those who rejected the march 1 permit by saying that Turkish people do not want war and the blood of the Turkish troops should not be shed, are still valid…If Turkey does not send troops to Iraq in the face of difficulties in that country, this will humiliate Turkey. On the other hand, no one can foresee what may happen if Turkey sends troops…Because the common view is that the Iraqi policy of AKP proved to be failing.”
