SOFRES surveys EU on Turkeys ambitions to Join

The world’s leading opinion poll company, SOFRES made a survey of 6 EU countries regarding Turkey’s EU accession campaign. Today the results of this opinion poll are being released in Turkey and are only being published in Hürriyet. According to the opinion poll which surveyed, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain and England, in total 45 percent are for Turkey’s accession and 43 percent are against it. Poland is Turkey’s biggest supporter with 55 percent of the population in favour of Turkey’s accession and only 28 percent against. There was a clear majority in favour also in England where 50 percent of the population said ‘yes’ while 32 percent said ‘no’ and also in Spain where 49 percent said ‘yes’ and 25 percent said ‘no.’ It was closer in Italy where 49 percent were in favour but 38 percent were against. In Germany and France, however, the majority of people surveyed were against Turkey’s accession, with 60 percent saying no and only 36 percent saying ‘yes’ in Germany and 59 percent saying ‘no’ and 37 percent saying ‘yes’ in France.
