SİYAD awards to be announced Feb 22

At a press conference at the Maçka Cinebonus G-Mall Movie Theater, SİYAD President Murat Özer announced this year’s candidates for awards to be given in 13 categories.

Özer said films had been determined by votes of 43 association members, and five candidates had been chosen in each category. He said the final decision would be given Feb. 19 and the award ceremony would be held at the Cemal Reşit Rey Concert Hall.

During the night, hosted with the cooperation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Istanbul Greater Municipality, Özer said the SİYAD Lifetime Honor Award and the Tuncan Okan Labor Award would also be given.

For the first time this year, new awards for Best Documentary and Best Short Feature would be presented, said Özer.

Some of the candidates for SİYAD Awards are as follows: For Best Film: "Ara" (Event Over), "Rıza," (Consent) "Sonbahar" (Fall), "Tatil Kitabı "(Summer Book) and "Üç Maymun" (Three Monkeys). For Best Director: Özcan Alper, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Kazım Öz, Tayfun Pirselimoğlu and Ümit Ünal. For Best Actor: Erdem Akakçe, Rıza Akın, avuz Bingöl, Onur Saylak and Cem Yilmaz. For Best Actress: Demet Akbağ, Hatice Aslan, Ayça Damgacı, Selen Uçer and Nurgül Yeşilçay.
