“In order to comment on the place of the congress of Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Sunday within the adventure of this party, we should first pay attention to a contradiction in the speech of Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. A major part of his speech was on the definition of the ideological axis on which AKP bases itself. Erdogan described AKP as, A) “Being at the center of society,” B) “Having established a new political center,” and C) “The address of the new center.” In sum, the leader of AKP tried to say that they transformed the center and received the ownership rights of it. He gave the message that, “We are the center.”“The rest of the speech of Erdogan was built on an effort to generate confidence…In this sense the AKP leader stressed that they “have no special agenda.” His remark that they would not make politics over sacred values and they stand at equal distance to all beliefs, can also be evaluated in this respect. Moreover, Erdogan in a way defined himself as “republican” in addition to being democratic.“Giving so much messages on confidence must be out of a need…In other words, Erdogan does not feel comfortable in the new chair at the center that he sits on. In this sense the leadership of AKP in a way accepts that there are some sections of society that still have hesitations on whether to trust AKP or not. In order to support this view having doubts about AKP, we can cite another example regarding the contradictions in the “center” discourse of Erdogan. While Erdogan promised in his speech that they would not make politics over religion, the political agenda of the country was occupied by a controversy over the tension, which was created by the desire of AKP to promote schools providing religious education. How can this be explained?”
