The contract for the construction of the Samsun-Ceyhan pipeline has been approved by the Turkish government and will be realized by a Turkish-Italian consortium. Calik Energy in cooperation with the Italian energy firm Eni will conduct the joint project which is estimated at a cost of $1.5bn.

The pipeline will carry 50.70 million tons of oil via a 550km long pipeline, and will be used to transport Russian and Caspian oil to the southern port in Turkey.

Calik and Eni have six months to carry out research, with the approval by the President Ahmet Necdet Sezer.
