Rice, who usually uses the cars allocated to her by the embassies of the countries she visits, or cars brought in from the U.S, travelled with Gul from the Cankaya Kiosk to the Foreign Ministry mansion and then on to the airport.

Diplomatic sources interpreted Rice's behavior as an important gesture to Turkey. After their 35 minute journey to the airport, Gul told his close circle, “I got the impression that they understood us this time especially on Iraq and Cyprus.”
