President’s words fall like a bomb on the ceremony

General Büyükanıt handed over command of the ground forces to General Başbuğ yesterday. At the ceremony, a bold statement from President Sezer about the Lebanon question fell like a bomb.
Sezer: Well, well. We have already agreed before the formal decision has even been made.
“It is not within our duty to protect the national interests of other countries. They are attempting to sweet-talk us into going to Lebanon”, Sezer said. “While large states are discussing and questioning the matter, we have decided to not send troops”.
Meanwhile, the outgoing ground forces leader issued a strong statement to PKK terrorists.
“Those dreaming of transforming the Republic of Turkey into another republic will not succeed”, General Büyükanıt said. “They cannot transform the Republic founded by Atatürk, and they certainly will not succeed in dividing the country. They will have to account for what they have done when the time comes.”
