Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in England for an EU summit at Hampton Court, said yesterday that barring the lifting of isolationary measures against Northern Cyprus, Turkey will not take any steps to open its air and sea ports to the Greek-run Cypriot authority. PM Erdogan also added that the solution to the Cyprus disagreement should be sought in the United Nations, and not within the body of the EU.

Warm comments from Erdogan on Merkel administration
Speaking at a press conference following the EU summit, PM Erdogan noted that he had spoken with outgoing German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder, saying "I think that the new coalition government will continue with the same sensitivities that Schroeder's administration showed. In my talks with Merkel, the same hopes were expressed."
Austria to take over EU term presidency in January 2006
PM Erdogan also commented on the fact that Austria is scheduled to take over the term presidency of the EU starting on January 1, 2006, saying that as far as he was concerned, this would not affect Turkey's accession process negatively. PM Erdogan also used his press conference to describe as a "big lie" the rumors that Turkey and other Muslim countries are putting together a "Peace Force" to take action in Iraq.
