Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, arriving two days ago in Oman for official visits, received a welcome usually reserved only for visiting presidents. PM Erdogan, staying in a hotel in Muscat, met yesterday morning with high ranking members of the Omani government, and then with Sultan Kabus bin Said, the leader of the country, who reportedly met PM Erdogan at the door to his palace, a significant gesture of respect coming from this Arab country.

After meetings lasting through the day, Erdogan and his delegation, which includes his wife, Emine Erdogan, left Muscat for the Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates.
While in Oman, PM Erdogan criticized the recent developments in Iraq, saying "Things are not going as we wished in Iraq. The preparations made for the Iraq Constitution are not the ones we had wished for. Iraq needs a constitution which includes all of the people living in Iraq. Not just the Kurds and the Shiites, but the Sunnis, Turkmens, and Arabs too. There should be a constitution which clarifies that all of the above and under ground wealth of Iraq belong to all of the people of the country. The people there should be able to say 'This constitution secures my rights, freedom, and the supremacy of justice.'"
