Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed the Turkish media late Wednesday in an interview with the private TGRT television channel for the outrage and criticism Turkey received from the international community over the Istanbul pre-Women's Day demonstrations.The police brutality that sent shock waves around the world, especially through Europe, at a time when Turkey is hosting a meeting over EU membership, were shown to on a Turkish television channel. The footage showed police beating women who had fallen to the ground. Erdogan, however went on to say that the police response had been heavy handed, but at the same time he said that the police had been provoked. "There was provocation, but there were also mistakes made by members of the police force. They should have been careful and not fallen for the provocation." An investigation has begun into the unnecessary show of force by local authorities. Â
