No doubt about it: Turks will support Schroeder's SDP on Sunday

With German elections taking place this Sunday, the Hurriyet newspaper has conducted a poll with thousands of ethnically Turkish German voters, determining that by a wide margin, Turkish voters in Germany will support Prime Minister Gerhard Schroeder's Social Democrat Party (SDP) at the booths on Sunday. The refrain "Turks see no alternative to the SDP" was widely heard by Hurriyet pollsters, who noted that PM Schroeder's performance in the last period combined with opponent Angela Merkel's attacks against Turkish membership in the EU were the main reasons given for SDP support. Of those polled by the Hurriyet, 77% said they would vote for the SDP.  The most favored second after the SDP by Turkish voters in Germany is the Green Party. Â
