Heavier penalty for the violation of Women's rights

While the new Turkish Penal Code (TCK) continues to dominate the parliamentary agenda, Dr. Canan Aritman, a deputy from the Republican People's Party (CHP) has suggested heavier penalties for those individuals, who carry out unauthorized virginity tests on women. Dr. Aritman submitted her amendments to parliament, calling for any individual who carries out such tests to be eligible for three years in prison.She also said, "Even in life or death situations, doctors first need to get the patients permission. This is the basic right of every human."Â
