Kewell told Galatasaray TV Sunday that Rijkaard was an extraordinary character while he was a player. "As a coach, he led one of the best teams and some of the best players in the world," said Kewell. "He has a great career, and I’m looking forward to working with him."
Kewell recalled that the Dutch wanted to sign him during his term at the helm of Barcelona. "But I preferred to join Liverpool at that time," he said.
The successful Australian player praised the 4-3-3 system, which Rijkaard said he will implement in Galatasaray. "The system was a success in Barcelona. If every player plays its role, Galatasaray will be successful with this attacking system."
Kewell, who joined the Istanbul team at the beginning of last season, found time to praise the club’s new signings Leo Franco and Keita. "I think they will be very useful. They need to prove themselves and for that, all they should do is to enjoy football," he said.
