Gul: Turkey in harmony over Syria

Arriving at Ankara's Esenboga Airport, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul reacted to comments made by U.S Ambassador Eric Edelman in regards to President Sezer's planned April trip to Syria yesterday: " Turkey has been acting inharmony with international community since the beginning." Edelman was reported as saying Turkey should join the international consensus and back the UN Security Council resolution 1559 which calls for an immediate pull out of Syrian troops from Lebanon. Turkey has been criticized over the Lebanon-Syria issue for doing nothing and keeping quiet. In reply Gul said, " From the beginning, Turkey has been acting together with the international community on Syrian issue. Everyone knows this. We continue to have consultations both with the allies and with friendly neighboring countries." Gul also stressed that solving problems through peaceful means and transforming the region into an island of democracy and freedom are the basic principals of Turkey.Â
