The Greek Cypriot Republic has blocked the "Cyprus Declaration" agreed on under the leadership of the previous EU term president England. The Greek side has said that unless wording calling on an immediate solution to the diplomatic problems surrounding the island is removed, that the declaration will "carry no meaning." A sticking point for the Greeks has been wording in the declaration which puts the pressure on the UN to come to a solution on the Cyprus issue. Greeks want this wording removed, and in its place, for wording which slides the pressure of the Cyprus problem more into the framework of the EU.  The official Greek news agency CNA has indicated that the Greek Cypriot authority has reached an agreement with England following the acceptance of their requests, and that this agreement will be announced today. In order to convince Greek Cypriot leader Tasos Papadopoulos, British negotiators accepted amendments to the EU accession talk roadmap for Turkey which specify "Turkey will not have the veto power which Greeks have in international organizations" and that "full membership talks with Turkey will proceed in the full knowledge and participation of all EU governments."
