Good News From West Thrace

The highest court of Greece is on the brink of a historical decision about more than 100 thousand citizens living in Western Thrace. The reporter judge of the case Kasavetis said that “IT is everybody’s right to determine his own ethnic identity.”Greece has so far labelled the ethnic Turks as “Moslems” and denied their Turkish origin. The Greek foreign ministry, deems the report which calls on removing the ban on such expressions as “Turkish union” and “West Thrace Turks”, as an evidence that “A democratic and European administration, does not approach minorities with the previous phobias. PASOK deputy, Turkish origin Greek Galip Galip is hopeful of the ruling, which is expected to be announced in a month. According to diplomatic circles, such a ruling by the high court will add a new impetus to Turco-Greek affairs. �
