-- LATEST BLOW TO PKK: 19 TERRORISTS KILLED
Security forces cast a heavy blow on the terrorist organization PKK in the southern province of Hakkari. 19 of the terrorists who opened harassing fire at an outpost were killed. Two Turkish soldiers were killed. Â

-- EXPLOSION IN TUZLA KILLS ONE
A blast at the Selah dockyard in Tuzla district of Istanbul killed one of the workers and injured five others. The blast occurred as the gas accumulated in the tank section was ignited when workers were opening a hole with the autogenous welding. The number of deaths due to labor  accidents in dockyards since 2006 rose to 86.

-- UNESCO ASKED ABOUT DEMOLISHED HOUSES IN SULEYMANIYE
The United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) delegation started its inspection in Suleymaniye region of Istanbul. The delegation which received a briefing on historical buildings asked questions to officials about the buildings that were demolished. The delegation will make examinations on important sites including the Four Seasons Hotel.

-- PKK DISSOLVED, BAYIK ESCAPED
After Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit said, "be ready for a surprise", the General Staff released a statement after midnight and said terrorists on Mount Qandil were dispersed in a great extent. In its statement, the General staff said, "the bodyguards of Cemil Bayik, who escaped to a neighboring country, were killed and Bayik's whereabouts is unknown." Terrorist Fehman Huseyin, with an alias "Bahoz", also left Zap.

Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan defined the mine blast which killed four and wounded five in Batman as a "heinous attack". Addressing members of the terrorist organization PKK, Erdogan said, "you can reach nowhere by following this wrong path. Turn back from this path before its too late and before your mothers experience more agonies."

-- CLOSURE CASE HARMS OUR IMAGE
President Abdullah Gul spoke to an influential economy newspaper, the Financial Times. Gul said he was totally out of politics, but replied to questions as if he were an administrator of the ruling Justice & Development (AKP). On the closure case against AKP, Gul said, "undoubtedly, this appearance of Turkey that you have referred to is not a pleasant one, let's be very frank about this." Gul also said, "Turkey, a country about which the headlines said that it is a reformist country, a country making progress, all these positive headlines, now may not have the best appearance when looked at from abroad. I believe at the end that Turkey's democracy will continue to be strong."

-- LAST STRIKE ON PKK
Recent operation of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) dissolved the terrorist organization PKK. Most of bodyguards of Cemil Bayik, one of the top members of the terrorist organization PKK, were killed in Iran where they ran away. Bayik's whereabouts is unknown.

-- MODERATE MESSAGES FROM UNITED STATES
U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Ross Wilson said Turkey had become a front country after the cold war. On the closure case against AKP, Ross Wilson said the United States was monitoring the developments carefully and had confidence in Turkish institutions. Wilson said the United States wanted to work with a secular Turkey, which has a strong democracy and which had adopted rule of law. On March 1st motion, the ambassador said the world had expected a tension in Eastern Europe during the cold war era and had been prepared for that. However, the clashes were around Turkey today, Wilson said. Wilson also said March 1st had become a history.
On Turkish Armed Forces, Wilson said the United States was working in harmony with the Turkish army and problems in fight against terrorism were solved with dialogue. Wilson also said the terrorist organization PKK was losing power each passing day. Wilson also said the United States believed that it should cooperate with Turkey in order to be successful in its Iraq policy.

-- FOOTBALL LEAGUE'S CHAMPION TO BECOME DEFINITE
The champion of the 2007-2008 Turkcell Super League season will become definite today. Galatasaray, the current leader in the league, will take on Genclerbirligi Oftas in a home match at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium. A draw is enough for Galatasaray to become the champion. Fenerbahce will play an away match with Trabzonspor in H.Avni Aker Stadium.

-- INFLATION NOT TO DROP THIS YEAR
Finance Minister Kemal Unakitan said the inflation would not fall this year due to oil prices over 125 USD. Unakitan said the inflation rate would not drop this year but it might in the following year.

-- ANOTHER DEATH IN TUZLA DOCKYARD
A blast that occurred at a dockyard in Tuzla district of Istanbul during overhaul, killed one worker and injured six others. With this death which was caused by an explosion in a tank, the number of deaths at accidents in dockyards in the last eight years rose to 54.

-- ONE OF THEM WILL GO NUTS
The 34-week long soccer league will end with the games to be played on Saturday evening. This year's champion will either be announced in Ali Sami Yen Stadium in Istanbul or the Avni Aker Stadium in Trabzon. Galatasaray which is taking on Genclerbirligi Oftas in Istanbul will win its 17th championship if it can avoid a defeat at its home. Fenerbahce which will be playing against Trabzonspor away in Trabzon will try to win the game, and wait for the news of Galatasaray's defeat, in order to declare itself champion for the 18th time.
