-- TRILLION SHOCK TO CHP

Constitutional Court discovered nearly one million YTL (one trillion with former Turkish lira) of irregularities in the accounts of main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) covering four years. The court asked Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor to indict CHP executives.ÂCHP's group acting chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu said that those responsible for the issue would be brought to court.

-- MR. JUDGE, ONE STEP BACK

Members and department chiefs at Supreme Court of Appeals and Council of State were dropped behind the secretary generals of Presidency and Parliament in the new protocol list which was approved by President Abdullah Gul.

TV contests in Turkey have become the new hope of the citizens for earning money. Around 1.5 million people have applied to compete in three TV contests.

-- ERDOGAN EXTENDS SUPPORT TO ARMED FORCES

In a speech he delivered at the graduation ceremony of the Police Academy, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that security forces were the guardian of democracy, secularism and human rights. "Those who try to hurt Turkish Armed Forces and Police will find the nation against them," Erdogan said.

-- PANIC IN MARMARIS

Two forest fires broke out in Armutalan hamlet of Marmaris town in western province of Mugla at 3:00 p.m. yesterday. Fire spread due to wind, and caused panic in touristic facilities as well as residences. Several facilities were evacuated. The fire was taken under control in the evening.

-- HE GAVE SECULARISM MESSAGE

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who attended graduation ceremony of Police Academy, said that police and soldiers were the guards of secularism.

-- BLANK CHECK FROM SOUTH KOREA

South Korea, which has been in a collapse since 2002 World Cup, wants to bring Fatih Terim to manage its football. South Korea Federation said, "We offer you a blank check, save us." Terim has not responded yet.

The fire which broke out in Armutalan region of Marmaris resort town in western province of Mugla rapidly grew. People panicked when flames got 10 meters near hotels and residences. The fire was taken under control partially.

-- CULTURE CAPITAL ISTANBUL GETTING READY

Having been declared as the European Culture Capital in the year 2010, Istanbul is getting ready to host 10 million tourists during this term. Istanbul's physical appearance is getting changed thanks to restoration projects. New exhibition halls and congress centers are being erected in the province.

 

-- JUNK YARD OF ATOM BOMBS

An inspection made by the U.S. Air Forces indicate that the nuclear weapons at the Incirlik Air Base are not being kept in a secure atmosphere. According to Hans Kristensen, a nuclear weapons expert, there are deficiencies involved in the security of nuclear bombs at the Incirlik Air Base.

-- DINK'S FIRST AND ONLY NOVEL ON SALE

First and only novel "Two Close People, Two Distant Neighbor" of Hrant Dink (Armenian editor in chief of Agos newspaper who was assassinated last year) is on sale. The novel is about Turkish-Armenian relations.

 

-- PANIC IN WORLD, PANIC IN TURKEY

The record rise in oil prices and collapse in U.S. stock exchanges influenced Turkey as well. The Istanbul Stock Exchange (IMKB) National-100 Index dropped 749.55 points and closed at 35,829.40 points yesterday. Interest rates increased 0.25 points and reached 22.33 percent.

-- 35 MILLION EURO HAD HE BEEN BRAZILIAN

After having performed in an excellent way at the Euro 2008, Turkey's Arda received ovation from football fans all across the world. British fans referred to Arda as the world's best player. In letters sent to the Times newspaper, British fans said that "had Arda been Brazilian, he would have been offered 35 million euro."
